Hell Hole 4WD Trail (14E03), off Chipmunk Ridge Road, Placer County, CA
About this trail
Hell Hole 4WD Trail follows a rugged motorized route through forest and granite terrain along the western side of Hell Hole Reservoir. Tight sections, rock gardens and uneven climbs demand careful driving, good ground clearance and recovery preparation. Travel with another capable vehicle and allow plenty of time for a slow trip out and back. The map point marks the start of designated trail 14E03 near Chipmunk Ridge Road, not the boat ramp or the hiking trail on the opposite shore. Check the Forest Service motor-vehicle map, seasonal gates, weather and current fire restrictions before leaving. Stay on designated routes and verify camping rules separately; this guide does not grant access to private land.
