Johnson Valley combines desert washes, dry lake beds and rocky hills, including the expert-level Hammers rock-crawling area. Use BLM's current riding-area map and posted boundaries: the neighboring military shared-use area closes periodically for training, and a map pin does not identify legal riding boundaries. Check the Marine Corps closure schedule before travelling. Bring water and recovery equipment, meet California OHV requirements, and choose terrain that matches your vehicle and experience.
