Lower Sycamore OHV Access
Sycamore OHV Staging Area, Forest Road 403, Tonto National Forest, near Fort McDowell, AZ
About this trail
Lower Sycamore provides access to a desert OHV network of sandy washes, rutted tracks and rocky terrain. Routes vary in width and difficulty, so choose signed trails suited to your vehicle and experience rather than treating every track as open to every vehicle. The pin marks the Forest Service's main Sycamore staging area on Forest Road 403, beyond the old entrance point. Keep parking and access lanes clear. The staging area is day-use only, with no overnight camping or campfires, and no drinking water is provided. The Forest Service currently lists no Tonto OHV permit requirement here, but says that may change; check the latest rules and Arizona vehicle requirements before visiting. Stay on designated routes to protect wildfire-recovery areas, avoid flooded washes and remain alert to other visitors. The three original trail photographs are historical, not a current condition report.
