About this trail
Sand Lake offers coastal dune riding from the West Winds OHV staging area. Soft sand and changing dune faces require a suitably equipped vehicle, careful speed and a lookout for other riders beyond each crest. The pin marks the Forest Service staging area on Galloway Road, not the viewpoint in the historical community photograph. Stay within designated motorized riding areas and respect vegetation, water and posted closures. An Oregon OHV permit is required for riding, and a valid day-use or recreation pass is required for parking. Check current flag, sound, equipment and vehicle rules before travelling. Alcohol is prohibited in OHV riding areas, and riding is restricted between midnight and 6 a.m. Camping is separate from day-use staging and has its own requirements. Special holiday entry arrangements can apply; consult the Forest Service before a holiday trip. No admission or campsite is sold on this directory page.
