About this trail

Sierra Buttes OHV Trail offers a steep, rocky mountain approach with exposed sections and wide Sierra views. Expect narrow stretches and limited room to pass or turn around; a capable high-clearance 4WD and careful route planning are advisable. The pin marks the mapped motorized trail 12E07 above Sierra City, reached through the Monarch Road network. Follow the designated OHV route, not the Pacific Crest Trail or the separate hiking approach that also appears under the Sierra Buttes name. Stop at posted gates and the motorized endpoint; the final approach and stairs to the lookout are on foot. The Forest Service map lists seasonal use, normally April 1 through December 31, subject to closures and conditions. Original photos show a past visit, not today's road conditions.
