About this trail
Tahuya State Forest offers wooded 4x4 trails with tight turns, uneven ground and purpose-built obstacles near Belfair. This is a working forest with several different trail types, not an unrestricted off-road park. DNR identifies Kammenga 4x4 Trailhead on Elfendahl Pass Road as an access point for full-size vehicles; follow the signed 4x4 network rather than motorcycle or narrow two-track trails. The pin marks the nearby Elfendahl Pass staging area published by DNR, not the full route or an exact Kammenga gate. Bring the required Discover Pass and vehicle registration or ORV permit, and check current fire and trail notices. DNR currently reports a washed-out bridge closing parts of Howell Lake Loop and a campfire ban. Stay out of streams, ponds and wetlands, respect private land and barriers, and yield to other forest users. Historical photos do not establish that a wet area is legal to drive today.
