Twenty Nine Switchbacks Road
Tobin access to Route 6M40, off Highway 70, Plumas National Forest, near Storrie, CA
About this trail
Known locally as Twenty Nine Switchbacks Road, this steep, winding approach climbs from the Tobin side of the Feather River Canyon toward the High Lakes network. The pin marks the mapped Highway 70 end of Route 6M40. Tight turns, loose surfaces and rock constrictions require suitable clearance, traction and careful line choice; the old stock-vehicle description should not be treated as a guarantee. Route 6M40 also extends toward Rock Creek, so use the current map to distinguish this eastern approach and any onward connections. Stay on designated motorized routes and keep vehicles off the Pacific Crest Trail. Check forest alerts, gates and conditions before visiting. The gallery retains the original vehicle photograph and a historical annotated map, neither of which establishes present road conditions.
