Five questions with a first-time landowner

Granite Gap opened 140 acres to riders this summer. The owner on insurance, ruts, and why he finally said yes.

Wheel It Team

Granite Gap Park ran its first paid ride day in June. We asked the owner the five questions every landowner asks us.

Was insurance the nightmare you expected?

"No. The booking flow carries the waivers and the policy rides on the events. My agent asked more questions about my tractor."

What about people tearing the place up?

"Guided groups changed my mind. Nobody free-ranges. The crew walks the lines the night before and the group stays on them."

What surprised you?

"How much people thank you. Riders around here have nowhere legal to go. They treat the land better than some hunters I've leased to."

Would you do it again?

"We're already scheduling October."
